Oliver Messel was one of the foremost theatre set designer of the 20thC, was in the same circles as Cecil Beaton and was the uncle of Lord Snowdon and worked a lot for Princess Margaret in Mustique. Messel also refurbished many rooms at The Dorchester Hotel in London.
The bed is in good, unrestored condition for it’s age however it does require a little work. The silk covering on the headboard and the underside of the canopy requires replacement. The Cluny covering on the cornice also requires replacement but there is ample spare fabric with the curtains in order to restore this and still retain one of the pairs of curtains.
